This program is an opportunity to help raise postsecondary expectations among younger students and their families regardless of their background. To prepare ourselves for the world of personal and professional choices in the 21st century, we must open the doors of college to all Americans. Feel free to contact the GEAR UP & SOAR staff for more information and assistance. The GEAR UP Program is a six-year discretionary grant program designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. Since 1999, a total of $5 million has been received. On September 1, 2005, a new GEAR UP grant program was funded. It will provide an additional $6 million through 2011. The western Kentucky middle and high schools who are participating in the GEAR UP AND SOAR Program are: These school districts along with 27 other partners including higher education institutions, area Chambers of Commerce, Family Resource and Youth Service Centers, area public libraries and other state agencies have collectively committed over $7 million in matching funds to support the program. |
